Backupify Helps You Backup Your Online Accounts

With the advent of Web 2.0 and advanced web services to share and work on data, it seems that after some years people won’t worry about the operating system any more. (Google Chrome OS is another step in that direction)

I mean, just think about the time you spend online. Be it on interacting on Facebook or Twitter, posting pictures to Flickr, emailing via Gmail, storing bookmarks on Delicious..it’s all happening online. None of the data is on your PC. It’s all online or the way they say, “It’s all in the cloud.”

Backupify is a web based service which aims to be a one-stop storage solution for this data. It helps you backup your Facebook data, your Twitter stream, backup Flickr photos, Gmail and many more services.

The way it works is simple – give it the login credentials of your accounts, customize your backup settings (whether you want to do it daily or weekly) and save. That’s it, you’re done. It’ll backup the data at the specified time intervals automatically.

Here are some questions to consider.

Why backup lifestream ?
If the data you post on the web is important and you want a centralized hassle-free backup solution for your accounts then you should. Also if your account gets hacked you could lose access to the data . Having a backup in such a case is useful.

Security and reliability ?
Backupify claims to be very secure. They also mention that your login and passwords are secure with them and they don’t look at your data. (Although it is always your choice here whether to trust them or not).

They use Amazon’s storage service to make sure data is backed up properly.

How to restore the data ?
They haven’t specified those details clearly yet. It depends on the account and they’ll help you do it if it can be restored.

Cost ?
Backupify is free till Jan 31st. They are yet to announce pricing after that date.
